About Me

General Information: David Barton is a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in individual, couples, and marriage counseling, and maintains a private practice in St. Louis, Missouri in addition to his work as the manager  of the Assertive Community Treatment Team at St. Patrick Center.

A graduate of Lindenwood University's Masters in Counseling program, David is currently serving as a private practitioner working with a broad spectrum of adult clients. Among his areas of experience and interest are addiction & recovery, couples/marriage counseling, depression & anxiety therapy, and trauma counseling.

In his personal time David primarily enjoys the company of his four children, who range from college students to grade schoolers, and his wife of nearly 15 years. Walking, watching movies and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals are two other passions.

Therapeutic Approach: David is an interactive and nonjudgmental counselor. His therapeutic approach is to provide unconditional support and practical feedback to help his clients effectively address personal life challenges, gain insights, and draw upon inner resources to help achieve their goals.

Primarily informed by Humanistic/Existential counseling theories, Positive Psychology and 12 Step Program Philosophy, he carefully integrates complementary methodologies and techniques from the Person-Centered, Cognitive-Behavioral, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Gestalt, and Family Systems therapy approaches to offer a highly personalized and ethical treatment approach tailored to each client.

With compassion and understanding, he works with each individual or couple to help them build on their personal strengths, learn to better-utilize outside support resources, and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing.

Education: MA in Counseling from Lindenwood University in addition to an MA in Education, BA in History and Minor in Psychology from Truman State University. David also completed a 2-semester private practice counseling internship and his PLPC hours at Creve Coeur Counseling Associates, LLC under the supervision of Nancy Golden, MA, LPC.

License, Certifications & Awards: David is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Missouri. Due to his academic excellence as a graduate student at Lindenwood University, David was selected for membership in both Chi Sigma Iota National Honors Society in Counseling and Alpha Chi National College Honors Society. David also completed an intensive training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

Professional Activities and Memberships: David is a Member of the American Counseling Association and has participated in activities with Psychotherapy St. Louis. He enjoys attending seminars and trainings related to the counseling field.

Service Work: David and his wife proudly volunteer their time as presenters for Retrouvaille of St. Louis , a Catholic marriage ministry that "provides a lifeline to hurting couples."

Office Location: David's offices are located at the Ryan Building: 745 Craig Road Suite 210-C Creve Coeur, MO 63141.

Driving south on Craig Road from Olive Blvd. turn right into the Ryan Building parking lot. Our suite is best accessed by taking the elevator to the second floor, turning right, and going straight ahead to the end of the main hallway.
